Micat in Vertice 2015/2016 - 93rd Season
On the occasion of the 50th year after the death of Count Guido Chigi Saracini, founder of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, on November 21st (one day earlier than usual) the 93rd Season of the Micat in Vertice starts with a special calendar including 16 concerts with a wide repertory ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary days.
Count Chigi Saracini (Siena 1880-1965), after inheriting a very heavy heritage in 1906, immediately began to use his resources to promote the musical activities in his beloved city.
At the end of the World War I he dedicated himself to the renovation of Palazzo Chigi Saracini (with the support of the versatile Sienese artist Arturo Viligiardi) in order to make it more suited to the needs of music. The Concert Hall was inaugurated on November 22nd 1923, with the first run of the season Micat in Vertice.
By the will of Count Chigi Saracini, in 1932 the Accademia Musicale Chigiana of Siena began its master classes, hosting in his home prestigious internationally renowned teachers and students coming from all the continents.
Thanks to its particular origins and as model of culture and development and promotion of music it has represented since last century, the Academy of Siena is internationally considered as one of the most prestigious Italian musical institutions.
Traditionally, the Micat in Vertice generally sees its first concert on the 22nd of November, in occasion of the feast of St. Cecilia, the Patron Saint of music and musicians.
Micat in Vertice, motto of the Chigi family, which is also carved on the travertine of the well placed in the cloister of the Palace, is a Latin phrase meaning literally "shines on top", but it brings to mind a number of different meanings, certainly edifying: the music played in the Micat in Vertice uplifts the spirit, lets the glory of the Academy shine more and more every year, feeds the fame of talented musicians, purifies and elevates the hearts of public, gives prestige to the city of Siena ...
The concerts of the Micat in Vertice will be held in different locations, from the historic seat of the Palazzo Chigi Saracini to the beautiful Teatro dei Rinnovati in the Public Palace, up to the impressive Church of St. Agostino and to the Cathedral.
The season Micat in Vertice 2015/2016 will end on June 18th 2016 with its last concert and will make way for the summer program of the Chigiana International Festival and Summer Academy 2016 .
The staff of the Palazzetto Rosso is glad to help its guests in organizing their evenings and in booking tickets for them.
